Transitional Front + Backyard Landscape - Libertyville, IL

This Libertyville, Illinois project began just as our clients were completing a full home remodel and were ready to reimagine their landscape. With a completely blank slate, we designed a welcoming new front entry, a functional patio space, and all‑new plantings to complement the refreshed architecture.

To harmonize with the home’s exterior colors and limestone accents, we selected full‑range bluestone for all paved areas. Our clients were eager to support pollinators, so the planting plan features a vibrant mix of flowering shrubs and native perennials. Boxwoods and ornamental grasses provide structure and winter interest, ensuring the landscape looks beautiful year‑round. A bluestone stepping‑stone path creates a seamless connection from the front yard to the backyard.

In the rear landscape, we designed around the existing covered patio and incorporated an expansive outdoor kitchen with dedicated dining space. For water‑management needs, the clients’ civil engineer designed a rain garden, and we completed the space by selecting all of the water-wise plantings—using linear groupings of ornamental grasses along the lawn edge to visually tie the backyard together. Low‑voltage lighting adds ambiance and extends the usability of the landscape into the evening.
