Mid-Century Ranch Landscape - Fox Point, WI

Our client was nearing completion of a full interior remodel of their unique mid‑century modern ranch in Fox Point, Wisconsin when they reached out to us. Much of the original landscaping had been removed over the years, and what remained was either declining or overtaken by thistles. The existing brick front walkway and patio were also in need of repair, giving us the opportunity to introduce new stone details that would refresh and elevate the entry.

Within the front walkway, we incorporated Lannon stone inlays that echo the home’s window frames and prominent stone chimney, tying the hardscape directly to the architecture. We designed all‑new planting beds around the entire home and existing hardscaping, preserving only the major trees in the front and backyard.

In the front yard, linear shrub groupings reinforce the clean, horizontal lines of the home’s mid‑century design. A row of ornamental grasses set in beach‑pebble mulch creates a subtle “shadow” of the large stone chimney, adding depth and visual rhythm. Slate chip mulch was used beneath the expansive roof overhangs for a clean, low‑maintenance finish.

For the backyard, the goal was to expand the usable space and break up the large expanse of red brick. We added a Lannon stone firepit circle at the edge of the patio and designated an area for a future hot tub. Lannon stone steppers replaced a section of the original brick walkway to improve circulation and create a more natural flow. New privacy plantings along the back lot line help define the space and create a sense of enclosure.

Low‑voltage landscape lighting completes the design, highlighting key architectural and landscape features and extending the enjoyment of the space into the evening.
