Our client was about to begin a remodel of the outside of their home in Germantown, Wisconsin. The update was moving the house in a more modern direction so they wanted the landscape to fit that vibe too. The design wasn't just for new plantings - they wanted to add a small seating area in front of the house with a seat wall around it. We suggested that they allow us to include the front walk in the design rather than just hanging a new patio off the edge of the walk.
They agreed and loved the conceptual design we presented to them. We pulled the walk away from the house a bit and then designed the patio space so that it visually overlapped the walk. This was accomplished via inlaid bluestone runnels that divided the walkway into sections. We also turned the patio at an angle to the house and walk making the space more dynamic. The stone seat wall was included but we made sure to not enclose the entire space, keeping it from feeling cramped. Some of the planting beds are set at the same angle as the patio, with a mixture of evergreens, flowering shrubs and long blooming perennials. A stone mulch zen garden also helps to give the patio space some breathing room. Low voltage landscape lighting completes the design.
Scheduled for installation in 2025.
