Mid-Century Patio + Landscape - Wauwatosa, WI

This was our sixth landscape design for a mid-century ranch home in a MCM neighborhood outside of Milwaukee. For the front yard landscape of this ranch home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, our clients wanted a new stone patio off their front porch. The existing front walk was in great shape but the plantings needed a makeover. We designed new plant beds that played off the angled lines of the front porch and built in stone planter. We worked around an existing mature crabapple and added a mixture of evergreens, flowering shrubs and long blooming perennials. A new magnolia was added for spring color at the beginning of the front walk.

For the backyard landscape, our clients wanted all new outdoor living spaces. The existing deck was too small for practical entertaining so we designed a new deck playing off the angles of the great room in the home. Like the front, the backyard plantings needed some help. We designed new plant beds that played off the angled lines of the new deck but also the circle fire pit patio. Boxwoods and a similar palette of plants as the front ties the whole design together. Low voltage landscape lighting was included as part of the design.

The design was installed in the summer of 2022. Check back again for photos once the landscape has matured!

Designed by James Drzewiecki, CPLD and Hannah Paulson, landscape designer.
