A classic mid‑century home deserves a landscape that feels just as thoughtful and beautifully crafted as its architecture. This redesign brings that vision to life with clean geometry, rich textures, and a welcoming front yard that feels both modern and timeless.
This mid‑century modern home in Fox Point, Wisconsin—originally designed by Milwaukee architect Abe Tannenbaum—received a complete front‑yard landscape redesign to enhance its architectural character. The homeowners wanted an alternative to a traditional lawn and a landscape that felt intentional, modern, and connected to the home’s original design.
The existing concrete circle walkway, original to the home, became the inspiration for the new landscape. We repositioned approximately 25% of the circles and poured new matching ones to create a stronger visual connection to the new half‑circle driveway. Around the walkway, we installed a monochromatic mosaic of three stone mulches, adding texture and a clean, modern aesthetic ideal for low‑maintenance front‑yard landscaping.
To create a welcoming entry, we added a small sitting area in full‑range bluestone near the front door—perfect for a modern outdoor seating moment. The existing masonry address wall was preserved, and new plantings were designed around it to echo the circular theme and soften the structure.
Across the front of the home, we introduced a curated plant palette suited for Wisconsin landscapes, including linear groupings of Karl Foerster feather reed grass to highlight the home’s vertical mid‑century elements. Toward the property edges, the planting design transitions into a more natural, organic layout for a balanced modern‑meets‑soft landscape feel.
Low‑voltage landscape lighting completes the project, enhancing curb appeal and highlighting the home’s architectural features and new plantings after dark.
