Mollica Inspired MCM Landscape - Wauwatosa, WI

A Wauwatosa, Wisconsin mid-century ranch landscape designed to complement 1950s architecture, with wedge-shaped front walk, exposed aggregate concrete, beach pebble runnels, and linear shrubs and grasses.

As featured in Atomic Ranch Magazine

The owners of this mid-century ranch in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, originally built by Joseph Mollica, wanted to update the landscape in a way that would harmonize with the home’s 1950s character. Responding to the strong linear geometry of the architecture, the landscape design is organized around a wedge-shaped theme.

The original curved front walk was replaced with a multi-paneled walk constructed of colored, exposed aggregate concrete with beach pebble runnels. A Zen-inspired rock garden anchors the area in front of the porch, while a simplified flower palette avoids competing with the home’s architecture. Linear groupings of shrubs and ornamental grasses further reinforce the strong horizontal lines of the house.
