If you want to create that true "stay-cation" feel in your backyard, nothing beats a swimming pool. They often become the focal point of fun, and the challenge then is to incorporate the other patio spaces around it. You'll see in many of the designs below that we like to use the centerline of the pool as a guide to locating other spaces like a cabana building or fire pit. Rectangular pools are still the most budget-friendly but if you want something more unique, then consider a natural shaped pool or even something modern and angled. Adding a spa or hot tub adds another fun element to the backyard. It's important to design the whole backyard at the same time as the pool. Don't make the mistake of letting your pool contractor dictate where your pool goes, then reaching out to a landscape designer after the fact.
