This Craftsman‑style home received a low‑maintenance landscape redesign that strengthens the connection between house and garden. A patterned flagstone walkway, Chilton stone seat walls, an expanded patio, and a masonry fire pit create inviting outdoor spaces, while cohesive plantings and subtle lighting complete the transformation.

The goal of this project was to create a landscape that felt fully integrated with our client’s Craftsman‑style home in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin while keeping maintenance needs low. To elevate the front entry experience, we designed a patterned flagstone walkway composed of overlapping panels. Each panel is outlined with brick soldier courses, and where the panels intersect, the brick detailing interlaces to highlight the geometry of the design. Linear groupings of shrubs and evergreens reinforce these lines, while long‑blooming perennials and ornamental grasses round out the planting palette with color and texture.

The existing concrete patio in the backyard had poor circulation and lacked definition, so we reimagined the space to create a larger, more functional outdoor living area. Dry‑stacked Chilton stone retaining walls were added around the perimeter of the yard, expanding the usable space. The oversized coping on top of the walls allows them to double as comfortable seat walls.

The new patio uses the same materials as the front walkway, creating continuity between the front yard and backyard. At its center, a masonry fire pit with a generous capstone serves as the focal point. Around the fire pit patio, an intricate brick pattern frames the contrasting flagstone, enhancing the view from the deck above and adding a crafted, architectural feel.

Plantings around the patio echo those used in the front yard, tying the entire property together. Low‑voltage landscape lighting provides the finishing touch, highlighting key features and extending the usability of the outdoor spaces into the evening. The result is a cohesive, low‑maintenance landscape that beautifully complements the home’s Craftsman character while offering inviting spaces for everyday living.
