As part of a full exterior makeover, this landscape renovation completes the transformation of a classic saltbox home. With the new entrance and exterior color scheme already in place, the refreshed plantings introduce structure, four‑season interest, and vibrant color. Thoughtful tree placement, layered perennials, and repeated design elements create a cohesive, welcoming landscape from front to back.
Following an interior remodel and the redesign of the home’s front entrance and exterior color palette by Modern Edge Design, we were brought in to complete the transformation with a fresh, cohesive landscape. The existing bluestone and brick walk provided a strong foundation, allowing us to focus on reimagining the plantings at the front of the home.
All overgrown or declining vegetation was removed, including a birch tree that had outgrown its space. In its place, we introduced an ‘Autumn Brilliance’ serviceberry—paired with a matching specimen at the opposite corner of the house—to provide true four‑season appeal. These ornamental trees offer spring blooms, summer berries, brilliant fall color, and sculptural winter branching.
To draw the eye toward the front door, ‘Green Velvet’ boxwoods were arranged in a sweeping arc, creating structure and year‑round greenery. Flanking the walk, ‘Brachytricha’ reed grass adds soft movement and plum‑toned fall plumes. Around the front walk, long‑blooming ‘Rozanne’ geranium and ‘Pardon Me’ daylily introduce vibrant, contrasting color. Additional perennials fill out the planting beds, anchored by ‘Summer Wine’ ninebark on the sunny end and ‘Limelight’ hydrangea on the shadier side for balanced texture and seasonal interest.
At the back of the home, we designed a new brick walk that wraps around the screened porch, connecting the deck to the driveway. The ‘Pardon Me’ daylily is repeated here for continuity, this time paired with ‘Blue Fortune’ agastache and a fragrant Koreanspice viburnum. Boxwoods echo the structure established in the front landscape. At the far end of the deck, another serviceberry anchors a shade bed near the chimney, complemented by ‘Limelight’ hydrangea, ‘Purple Candles’ astilbe, ‘Guacamole’ hosta, and other shade‑loving selections.
Together with the updated exterior colors, the new landscape provides the finishing touch to this saltbox home’s complete makeover—fresh, inviting, and beautifully unified.
