Elm Grove - Elegance Restored

The homeowner of this project contacted us after she watched the transformation of her neighbor’s property across the street, which we designed previously. Although her landscape was only a few years old, she was dissatisfied with the result. A total renovation was discussed, but budget concerns prevented the client from redoing any of the hardscapes. Instead we focused on reconfiguring all of the planting beds in the landscape. Our approach was to remove most of the existing material and introduce new plants to bring greater seasonal color while complementing the home’s French Country style and existing terraces. We wanted to create more visual impact, so we grouped plants in larger, casual masses and added other long blooming perennials, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs to lengthen the season of interest. To extend the budget while also allowing the landscape to retain a mature patina, some of the existing plants were reused in new combinations. New planting beds were added, such as the one around the lamp post. The redesign was so successful that we subsequently designed a spring bulb plan, as well as a renovation of the property’s back tree line to increase visual interest and create privacy for the homeowner.
